4th International festival of university choirs

At the University of Adam Mickiewicz in Poznań there was in April 2001 from 18th to 22th running 4th International festival of university choirs under the aegis of rector Prof. Stefan Jurga, where take part in also the Masaryk University in Brno choir GAUDEAMUS led by choirmaster Alexander Vacek.

First time was the festival organized in 1998 and was joined by most of Polish university choirs. Because of great success of the event, the next year was invited also choirs abroad the Poland.

In 2001 there was presented 5 choirs from Poland and 5 choirs from foreing countries: the University Veszprem choir (Hungary), choir of University in La Salle (Mexico), the chamber ensemble DE JUVENTUTE from the University Babes-Bolyai in Cluj-Napoca (Romania), the academical choir MIRCE ACEV from Skopje (Macedonia) and the Masaryk University in Brno choir GAUDEAMUS.

The pointing of the festival was by the series of concerts in aula of UAM and several others concert places in Poznań and closed surroundings to bring toward Polish listeners the richness of musical cultural legacy the nations of the individually choirs cames from. However, the main idea was to present Polish music and conterporary Polish composers. It cames into tradition, that the choirs yearly studies one piece from a contemporary Polish composer, that is presented at the last concert of the festival.

In 2001 there was showed composition "Ad Iuventatem". The author of music is Polish composer Marek Jasinski, who mainly pays to spiritual music. The text author is significant impersonator of Polish romanticism - Adam Mickiewicz. Poetical composition "Oda do miodosci" wasn't chosen accidentally. It contains some important message to young people at the threshold of a third millenium: self-confidence, enthusiasm, pleasure and optimism they are attributes of youth. Only that is able to evoke about renewal of an old world.
